Lead Pharmacy Technician

Join our team of talented healthcare professionals! We are looking for a Lead Pharmacy Technician to help provide exceptional patient care at our Pharmacy Distribution Center (PDC) located in Tewksbury, MA.


The Lead Technician will be proficient in performing all the duties and responsibilities of a Pharmacy Technician by preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory and maintenance of records to ensure effective patient care under the direct supervision of a licensed/registered pharmacist. 


Facility Information:

The State Office for Pharmacy Services (SOPS) provides complete pharmacy services for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Department of Mental Health, and various other state agencies.  Schedule: Day shift with rotating weekends.

What You Will Do

  • Fills physician’s orders, medication surgical kits, medication carts, and/or medication requisitions and specialty items/bins accurately
  • Generates reports, pick lists and labels as required
  • Prepackages medications in unit of use containers
  • Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date
  • Enters charges and credits for patient medications accurately
  • Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs
  • Clear occupational health testing requirements 
  • Work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff.
  • Handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule 
  • Set priorities and solve problems 
  • Fosters a team environment by providing orientation and training to new team members 
  • Meet the pharmaceutical needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, psychiatric, chemically dependent, rehabilitation and skilled-nursing patients. 
  • Possess strong leadership skills.


What You Will Need 


  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Three years pharmacy technician experience preferably in a hospital setting 
  • One year supervisory experience preferred 
  • Possess current CPhT in the State of Massachusetts 
  • Registered with the State of Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy 
  • Successful completion of a formal Pharmacy Technician training course preferred 
  • Experience demonstrating the knowledge of: medical terminology and abbreviations; pharmaceutical terms and drug names (generic and trade); mathematics sufficient to compute dosages and rate of drug use; metric system, weights and volume; record keeping for documentation and inventory purposes. 
  • IV Certified 
  • PTCB certified
